AH!
Well then, this is the problem.
The admin ID1 in WP is EVER switched with the installer phpBB admin UID2.
If you're installing using the WP installer admin ID 1, then the phpBB installer with ID 2 NEED to exist. This is mandatory.

One solution to this, is as above explained:
Create a new admin in WordPress: login with this new admin, and delete (or not use) the admin installer UID 1.

Set this new WP admin, with same username and email of another user in phpBB (maybe another admin, but also a normal user, that need to have same email and username).

OR another solution is here:
how to avoid the wp userid 1 and phpbb userid 2 association?

Now all should work.

It is possible to provide a sort of solution/option x this on next versions.

no you do not have to delete nothing from database and when you remove uninstalling the plugin it clean up all the (just 3) created rows into wp options table.
I suspect the problem come out due this scenario, so i take a fast dinner and before anything else i will try out and let know about this.
In the while, you could, with the plugin disabled, create another admin user in WP, so an admin that will be not UID1, that need to fit another user in phpBB (also a simple registered user), same email and username.
This user should not get same problem, isn't it?

p.s also note that at this time when you login you need to use the phpBB password for the user if it is different in phpBB, but i assume you have try out this way.
